I while ago I built a spreadsheet for doing just that. It’s now been copied thousands of times and loved by many.
It’s not overkill and not too simple either. It makes a good overview of multi-year to multi-decade personal finance trends and goals.
Assets and liabilities broken down for the average Joe, who many not be the best with spreadsheets.
